Dry Needling

Dry needling is an alternative therapy we employ at Collins Place Physio to help patients with pain and mobility management. Typically performed alongside a hands-on remedial massage or physiotherapy session, our therapists use fine needles to stimulate underlying trigger points, and muscular and connective tissues. By increasing blood flow to a problem area, toxic waste products begin to clear, and damaged tissues are better able to heal.

Dry needling is not painful; however, you may experience an immediate ‘twitch’ response, followed by a dull ache that eases in a few minutes. A skilful treatment technique, dry needling sets off a chain of neurological events that result in an immediate decrease in muscle tension.

We use dry needling at Collins Place Physio to treat:

  • Back and neck pain – acute and chronic conditions
  • Headaches
  • Muscle strains
  • Sciatic pain
  • Pelvic pain
  • Shoulder pain – Rotator cuff, Impingement syndromes
  • Knee pain – Patellofemoral, meniscal/ligament tears
  • Tendinopathy – RSI – i.e. tennis elbow, hamstring tendon
  • General muscular tightness and cramps
